Written for clinicians to coach families for resilience, this book can help anyone working with families and children to support the proven protective factors that mitigate stress and buffer the long term impact of potentially toxic stressors.
I'm a board certified pediatrician with my master's in public health. Raising three teenagers and two step-children combined with over 20 years of clinical practice, creates my unique know how in applying evidence-based resilience-building interventions in the midst of messy day-to-day parenting moments. I'm excited about my book Coaching Families for Resilience: how pediatricians can support caregivers and prevent burnout which the American Academy of Pediatrics is publishing this March (2025).
I've received a Special Achievement Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) for my work with families and pediatricians, helping to address social determinants of health and promote resilience. I've presented within Tuft’s Healthy Outcomes from Positive Childhood Experiences (HOPE) Innovation Network and offered a workshop at their summit entitled “First Aid for Toxic Stress.” I've also been an invited speaker for the AAP’s ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes), ASHEW (Addressing Social Health and Early Childhood Wellness), the CARE (Childhood and Resilience Education) Podcast, the Maine AAP’s annual conference, and a recurrent guest on Amy King’s “Dr. Amy” platform as well as Nerissa Bauer’s “Let’s Talk Kids Health” platform. I live in coastal Maine with my husband, kids and our pets.

Pediatricians and other pediatric health professionals are daily being challenged by the youth mental health crisis, the shortage of pediatric mental health professionals, and their own risk for burnout. Research increasingly shows that a trauma-informed care approach, like that presented in Coaching Families for Resilience, can help address some of the most pressing issues facing families and pediatric care providers.
